South Carolina's Destination Lakes

One of the joys of building a new home with Brown Haven Homes is that you’re almost guaranteed to be surrounded by nature. Building throughout North Georgia and the Carolina’s allows our homeowners to enjoy the many natural wonders of the nearby lakes and mountains that the region has to offer. We’re exploring some of the best nature spots that South Carolina has to offer below...

Just off of I-85 in Oconee County, this state park is easy to get to and has plenty of activities the whole family can enjoy. Lake Hartwell spans 56,000-acres and is a great spot for fishing; catch striped and hybrid bass, largemouth, crappie, bream, and catfish! Afterwards, take a break and enjoy some lunch at one of the many picnic tables while overlooking the lake. Avid bird watchers might be able to spot some rare birds such as hawks, and owls. This is also a great spot for camping, so go before the seasons turn!

Just outside Spartanburg County nestled in Chester, South Carolina this nature park is great for hiking, picnics and boating. Take a scenic walk on the two mile nature trail through the pine forest and enjoy the views of this massive 160 acre lake. Take out the boat, canoe, or kayak for fishing and sightseeing with the family. Don’t have a boat? No problem, Chester State Park also offers rental services. For a relaxing afternoon, visit one of the playgrounds and enjoy the scenic views.

Located in McCormick County, right by Anderson County, this lakeside championship 18 hole golf resort will wow you with great views. If you don’t have your own clubs you can rent a set for the day. Home to the 71,000-acre Strom Thurmond Reservoir, this is definitely a sight to see. The views are magnificent, grab a camera and capture some of the most beautiful nature shots in the Carolina’s imaginable. Bring a bike or hiking books and explore some of the great trails that everyone can enjoy! Want a sporty weekend? Take advantage of their basketball court, volleyball court, and tetherball stations! Did we mention there’s also an archery range?

Visit the Devils Fork State Park in Oconee County and take in the views of the spring fed Lake Jocassee. Go chasing some of the most beautiful waterfalls that Devils Fork has to offer by boat and afterwards enjoy trout fishing on the lake. The water is very clear so it’s a great lake for scuba divers and swim enthusiasts. If you’re not a water person, no worries! There are plenty of trails like Oconee Bell Trail to hike throughout Devils Fork State Park as well.

Located not far from our Anderson Design Studio, is the perfect spot for anyone that likes to golf in the fall. Cheraw State Park Golf Course has an 18 hole championship golf course that is settled in piney woods and protects the surrounding natural habitat. Explore cypress wetlands through Lake Juniper with your kayak or canoe. We recommend going soon so you can see the fall foliage! Take that canoe, grab your rod and reel and explore the rest of the 360 acres Lake Juniper has to offer.
