Whether you've lived in your new construction home for a few months or several years, it's normal to want to freshen up your interior space every now and then. Making small adjustments or buying inexpensive décor can have a big impact when it comes to how your home looks and feels. The next time you're itching to make a change, instead of budgeting for a big renovation or buying new furniture, try one of these quick fixes, then sit back and admire how new and different your home feels!
1) Paint a Little or a Lot
Whether you want to completely transform a space or just elevate it a notch, a coat of paint will do the trick every time. Paint an entire room, your kitchen cabinets, a worn piece of furniture, or just an accent wall and watch your watch room evolve in a matter of minutes.
2) Add a Plant (or Two, or Three)
When you know your space needs a change, but you're not exactly sure what to do, just add plants! Indoor potted plants fill in empty spaces and create points of interest, and you can get as creative as you want with pot styles and plant varieties and sizes.
3) Pull it Together with an Area Rug
An area rug can complete the look of a room, add contrast, or just make it feel more homey. In those parts of the country where it’s warm and humid in the summer, but cold in the winters (like where Brown Haven Homes builds), we recommend putting area rugs down in the cooler months. Not only do rugs make a room look cozier, but the extra material adds a layer of insulation to the floor, trapping cool air underneath and making your toes a lot warmer.
4) Toss a Few Accent Pillows
This is an easy way to add seasonal colors and fabrics to any room so that you never get bored. Just swap out the throw pillows on your sofa and chairs every time the weather changes! It's also the perfect way to add an unexpected pop of color or to make a subtle change that just makes you feel good.
5) Look in the Mirror
Mirrors reflect light and can make a room feel larger and brighter no matter where they are placed. You can also treat a mirror like a piece of art itself, and choose a unique frame or finish to create more interest.
6) Rearrange the Furniture
For an entirely new perspective, rearrange the furniture! Have fun and experiment with the placement of everything in your room to create more space (or make it cozier), or to create a new "zone" for reading, relaxing, playing board games, or anything else you don't have a comfortable space for now. You'll be amazed at the difference it makes.
