When you're designing your new home, color is one of the elements you want to get just right. There are infinite ways to combine colors, and it can be hard to settle on the perfect palette for your home. That's where Michelle, our interior design extraordinaire, comes to the rescue!

Michelle closely follows national trends in design and color, analyzes colors that BrownHaven customers prefer, and just intuitively knows what looks good together. From this wealth of knowledge and experience, she has put together a few tips for choosing color palettes that work perfectly in any home, complete with exact paint colors! Here's what she had to say:

Go Dark and Daring

Brown Haven Homes is ahead of the trend with our interior and exterior color palettes. The number one trending color is Sherwin Williams Urbane Bronze. Our selection specialists have been incorporating this color throughout the year as a great accent color for walls, doors, and even a dramatic cabinet color. The myth is that dark colors can make your rooms appear smaller; in fact, darker walls create the illusion of depth and space.

Contrast is Key

I love combining warmer trim colors with lighter wall colors. The key is to make sure you have enough contrast between the colors to emphasize the trim. Two great examples of this are Sherwin Williams (SW) Natural Choice for the walls and SW Shiitake for the trim and doors. SW Drift of Mist for the walls and SW Mindful Gray for the trim is another nice color scheme.

Neutral is Nice

Cool greys are being replaced with neutral stone hues. Some of our favorite warm tones in our custom color palette include Sherwin Williams colors Anew Gray, Worldly Gray and Wool Skein.

One-Color Wonder

Another great interior paint scheme is to paint the ceilings the same color as the walls. This is a great tip to make your room look larger. It will draw the eye up and create the illusion of a larger space.
