Some dreams never fade; they simply wait for the right moment to come to life.
For Deborah Thompson and her 92-year-old mother, Millie, the dream of building a home that was uniquely and completely theirs has been growing for more than two decades. When they arrived at our Brown Haven Homes Clemson office, they didn’t come empty-handed. They brought a folder filled with cut-outs from Better Homes & Gardens magazine, some dating back over 30 years. Each clipping represented an idea, a vision, a piece of the home they had always imagined.
This dream began as one Deborah once shared with her late husband. He passed away in 2024 before getting the chance to see it realized. That loss made this journey even more meaningful for Deborah and her mom as they pressed forward with renewed determination to bring their vision to life. During her selections appointment, Deborah wore a necklace that Millie had given her during one of the hardest moments of last year, a reminder of love, strength, and connection. With tears in her eyes, Deborah shared, “It made it feel like a part of him is here.”
Adding another layer of meaning, the land where their new home will stand once belonged to an old goat farm that Deborah and her family often visited in her childhood. Now, that beloved place will be transformed into something even more special, the forever home she and her mother have waited a lifetime to see.
By the end of her selections appointment, there was not a dry eye in the room. It is moments like these, helping families achieve dreams decades in the making, that remind us why we do what we do.
